FIFA Women’s World Cup
The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicked off on Thursday in what is already a groundbreaking tournament for the Women’s game with attendance records broken on the opening day. The Super Falcons of Nigeria kicked off their campaign on Friday with a 0-0 draw against highly-rated Canada.

Zambia’s Copper Queens kick off their tournament against Japan at 0900 SAST on Saturday morning whilst African champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa face up to one of the tournament favourites, Sweden, on Sunday morning at 0700 SAST.
Morocco is the last African side to get underway and face Germany on Monday with that clash kicking off at 1030 SAST.
The Copper Queens have a quick turnaround with their second pool game on Wednesday against Spain at 0930 SAST. Nigeria will square up against hosts Australia at midday on Thursday in a blockbuster clash while Banyana Banyana faces Argentina on Friday next week.
Netball World Cup
The biggest event of the Netball calendar hits South African shores this week as Cape Town plays host to the event. Next Friday is the opening event that will see the hosts go up against Wales whilst Zimbabwe takes on Australia, Uganda clashes with Singapore and Malawi encounter Scotland.
It is set to be a brilliant tournament filled with drama and glory as Africa hosts its first Netball World Cup.

Diamond League
The world’s premier athletics league heads to Monaco today for another drama-filled meeting. Athletics fans will not have to wait long for the next meeting as Sunday holds more action as the world’s best head to London.

World Aquatics Championships
It has not been the best start for African athletics at the showpiece tournament for aquatic stars. Nevertheless, there is still much to fight for with competition continuing until July 30. Africa’s best will still fight until the final race.
Tour de France
After South Africa Louis Mentjes, unfortunately, crashed out of the tour with a broken collarbone, Eritrean Biniam Girmay is the only African in the field. The star is shining regardless as he sits in 78th in the general classification and 12th in the youth category after stage 19.
