In the heart of the sporting arena, the past week unfolded as a captivating spectacle of determination, skill, and pure athletic brilliance. From the thrilling Rugby World Cup Quarter-final clash to the intense battles in the COSAFA Women’s Cup, sports enthusiasts were treated to a week of unforgettable moments.

Springbok’s dominance

South Africa’s iconic rugby team, the Springboks, faced off against host nation France’s Les Blues in a nerve-wracking Rugby World Cup quarter-final on Sunday, the 15th of October. In a display of sheer determination, the reigning champions secured their spot in the Semi-final with a narrow 28-29 win over France. 

The stage is now set for an epic showdown as South Africa prepares to take on England in the Semi-final on Saturday, the 21st of October.

Malawi’s triumph in the COSAFA Women’s Cup

Meanwhile, in the world of women’s football, Malawi emerged as the standout team in the COSAFA Women’s Cup. Their journey to victory culminated in a thrilling final against Zambia, where Malawi triumphed with a 2-1 win. 

The team’s captain, Temwa Chawinga, shone brightly, clinching the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top-scorer with an impressive nine goals, seven of which came from just two matches. Chawinga’s exceptional skills and leadership also earned her the prestigious Player of the Tournament award, solidifying her status as a football icon.

 A setback for the Proteas

In the world of cricket, South Africa faced a tough challenge against the Netherlands in the Cricket World Cup. Unfortunately, the Proteas suffered a setback as the Netherlands claimed victory with a 38-run win. However, this defeat serves as a reminder of the sport’s unpredictable nature, keeping fans on the edge of their seats in anticipation of every match.

Swimming brilliance: Coetze and Sates shine

Amidst the exhilarating action in the pool, South African swimmers Pieter Coetze and Matthew Sates emerged as stars of the Swimming World Cup. Their exceptional performances in the final stage of the competition resulted in a combined total of seven medals, four of which were gold.
