Egypt claims top honours at 13th African Games

The 13th African Games, hosted in Accra, Ghana, recently concluded, leaving behind a legacy of athleticism, camaraderie, and remarkable achievements. Over the course of the games, nations from across the continent converged to compete for glory in a multitude of sporting disciplines, showcasing the diverse talents and unwavering spirit of African athletes.

Emerging as the undisputed champions of the games, Egypt asserted its dominance by securing an impressive total of 191 medals – 102 gold, 47 silver, and 42 bronze. This remarkable feat not only reaffirmed Egypt’s status as a sporting powerhouse but also highlighted the nation’s commitment to excellence across various disciplines.

In a closely contested battle for supremacy, Nigeria secured the second position with a formidable tally of 121 medals, while South Africa claimed the third spot with a total of 106 medals. These podium finishes underscored the intense competition and high level of performance witnessed throughout the games.

Athletics, often regarded as the pinnacle of sporting prowess, saw Nigeria emerge as the dominant force, clinching 11 gold, six silver, and five bronze medals. Algeria showcased its mastery in Badminton, securing two gold and one silver medals, while Egypt demonstrated strategic brilliance in Chess, claiming five gold and one silver medals.

In Cricket, Zimbabwe emerged victorious, showcasing their proficiency in the sport with two gold medals. Eritrea displayed remarkable endurance and strength in Cycling, garnering six gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.

The games also witnessed thrilling matches in team sports, with Egypt triumphing in Hockey’s men’s category, while Ghana claimed victory in the women’s category. In Football, Ghana asserted its dominance by clinching gold in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Egypt showcased its prowess in Handball, securing gold in the men’s division, while Angola emerged victorious in the women’s division. Tunisia stamped its authority in Judo, clinching six gold, four silver, and six bronze medals.

Karate saw Egypt’s athletes shine once again, securing 10 gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Uganda demonstrated rugby prowess by clinching gold in both the men’s and women’s categories of Rugby Sevens.

South Africa showcased its strength in Swimming, securing an impressive tally of 17 gold, 16 silver, and 13 bronze medals. Egypt demonstrated its excellence in Table Tennis, clinching six gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.

Tunisia displayed skilful performances in Taekwondo, securing nine gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. Tunisia also emerged victorious in Tennis, securing three gold and three bronze medals.

In the Triathlon, South Africa demonstrated its endurance by clinching two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Egypt showcased its excellence in Volleyball, claiming gold in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Morocco secured gold in the men’s division of Beach Volleyball, while Egypt claimed gold in the women’s division. Egypt showcased its strength in Weightlifting, securing 27 gold, five silver, and four bronze medals.

In Wrestling, Egypt secured another remarkable victory by clinching 10 gold, four silver, and four bronze medals.
