Gerda Steyn defends Two Oceans title in an epic week of sport

Two Oceans Marathon

On the 13th of April, Cape Town hosted the prestigious Two Oceans Marathon, where athletes from across the globe showcased their endurance and determination.

Among the standout performances was Gerda Steyn’s remarkable fifth consecutive victory in the Two Oceans Marathon, shattering records with a staggering time of 3:26:54 in the 56km Ultra Marathon for the Women’s division. Meanwhile, Onalenna Khonkhobe emerged victorious in the Men’s division, crossing the finish line in an impressive 3:09:30.

In the Half Marathon category, Thabang Mosiako claimed the top spot in the Men’s division with a swift time of 1:04:40, while Mokulubete Makatisi dominated the Women’s division, clocking in at 1:13:52.

Boston Marathon

Two days later, on the 15th of April, the prestigious Boston Marathon took center stage as elite athletes from around the world showcased their speed and endurance.

Hellen Obiri delivered a stunning performance, securing her third consecutive major marathon win with a blazing time of 2:22:37. In the Men’s race, Sisay Lemma emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in an impressive 2:06:17.

Women Proteas and Sri Lanka Clash

The Women’s Proteas cricket team engaged in a thrilling battle against Sri Lanka in the Women’s ODI Series. Despite Laura Wolvaardt’s exceptional innings of 184 runs from 147 balls, the final clash ended with Sri Lanka clinching victory by six wickets, leveling the series at 1-1.

AFCON Futsal

The 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations kicked off in Rabat, Morocco, on the 11th of April, featuring eight formidable teams. As the tournament progressed, Morocco, Angola, Egypt, and Libya emerged as frontrunners, securing their spots in the knockout stages.

The upcoming semi-finals promise thrilling matchups:

• Egypt vs Angola at 17:00 on the 19th of April
• Morocco vs Libya at 20:00 on the 19th of April
