The past week has given sports fans some memorable moments, from Springbok domination to African athletes excelling on the World Athletics Stage.
The Springboks shine in London
The Springboks played a brilliantly executed match against the All-Blacks on Saturday at the iconic Twickenham stadium. The Boks defeated their rivals 35-7, making it New Zealand’s biggest defeat ever in their history. A confident win that will ultimately set the Springboks up for a brilliant World Cup.
World Athletics Championships
The World Athletics Championships proved to be an exciting watch, with records being broken and hearts being won.
Faith Kipyegon proved, yet again, her athletics prowess as she bolstered down the track to claim a gold medal in both the 1500m and the 5000m, becoming the first woman in history to do so in one World Athletics Championships.
Kenya and Ethiopia showcased their excellence by winning a combined 19 medals, while Uganda, Morocco, Botswana, and Burkina Faso secured seven combined.
FIBA Basketball World Cup
The FIBA Basketball World Cup has been a difficult tournament for African teams, with Angola being the only African team to grab a win after defeating the Philippines 80-70 on Saturday, the 27th of August.
