AFCON 2023 Group stage conclusion:
Starting with the AFCON group stage conclusion, the final stages of the Total Energies AFCON 2023 kick off on January 22nd, with teams vying to capitalize on their last chance to advance to the knockout stages. Some teams have already secured their spots, setting the stage for intense knockout clashes.
In Group A, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria stand at four points each, with Ivory Coast at three, while Guinea-Bissau languishes at the bottom with zero points, making their progression highly unlikely.
Group B sees Cape Verde already qualifying for the knockout stages, leading the group with six points. Egypt sits in second with two points, while Ghana and Mozambique, both on one point, remain in contention.
Defending champions Senegal have sealed their knockout spot in Group C, closely followed by Guinea with three points. Cameroon is in third with one point, and Gambia sits at the bottom with zero points.
Group D is tightly contested, with Angola and Burkina Faso both on four points, with Angola slightly ahead on goal difference. Algeria is in third with two points, while Mauritania trails with zero points.
In Group E, Mali leads with four points, closely pursued by South Africa and Namibia at three points each. Tunisia brings up the rear with one point. Group F sees Morocco topping the table with four points, while DR Congo and Zambia share second place with two points each. Tanzania sits at the bottom with one point.
U19 Cricket World Cup
Shifting gears to the U19 Cricket World Cup, Namibia gears up to face Australia on January 22nd, followed by a clash with Sri Lanka on January 24th. South Africa, having already triumphed over the West Indies, faces England on January 23rd and Scotland on January 27th.
Zimbabwe takes on Australia on January 25th after a defeat to Sri Lanka by 39 runs through the DLS method. Zimbabwe and Namibia will lock horns on Saturday, January 27th.
Australian Open Wheelchair tennis
In the Australian Open Wheelchair tennis, the excitement intensifies as Donald Ramphadi of South Africa confronts David Wagner in the quad division on January 24th.
On the same day, Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa goes head-to-head with Japan’s Momoko Ohtani in the women’s division.
