African Hockey Road to Paris Qualifiers
The culmination of an intense week of hockey saw both the South African Men’s and Women’s teams clinch qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
South African Women:
The Women’s team secured their berth with authority in a commanding final against Nigeria on November 5th, culminating in a resounding 9-0 victory.
South African Men:
The Men’s team navigated a chaotic final against Egypt on the same day, emerging victorious with a 2-1 scoreline, courtesy of a late goal from Ryan Julius.
Road to Bal 2024
3rd Place Playoff:
In a highly contested playoff on November 5th, Libya’s Al Ahly clashed with Cameroon’s F.A.P. Al Ahly emerged triumphant with a 93-84 win, claiming the bronze medal.
Final:
The high-stakes final on November 5th witnessed Central African Republic’s Bangui Sporting Club facing off against Morocco’s F.U.S De Rabat. In a tense encounter, Bangui Sporting Club secured a narrow 93-90 victory, clinching the gold medal.
New York Marathon
The marathon held on November 5th showcased incredible displays of endurance and power, with African athletes dominating both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Men’s Division:
Tamirat Tola from Ethiopia claimed the gold with a remarkable time of 2:04:58, followed by Kenyan star Albert Korir in second place with a time of 2:06:57. Ethiopian talent Shura Kitata secured the bronze, completing the marathon in 2:07:11.
Women’s Division:
Kenya’s Hellen Obiri took the gold in the women’s division with a time of 2:27:23, closely pursued by Ethiopian running legend Letsenbet Gidey, who secured silver with a time of 2:27:29. Kenyan star Sharon Lokedi claimed the bronze, finishing the marathon in 2:27:33.
African Football League
Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad AC engaged in a riveting showdown during the first leg of the African Football League final on Sunday, November 5th. The intense encounter concluded with Wydad AC emerging victorious, securing a 2-1 lead after 90 minutes. This result positions them favourably heading into the second leg, poised to potentially claim the coveted title on Sunday, November 12th.
Cricket World Cup
In a high-stakes match in the Cricket World Cup, the Proteas faced off against India in an intense battle on Sunday, November 5th. Despite their determined efforts on the pitch, the Proteas experienced a challenging outing and ultimately suffered a significant setback, succumbing to a defeat by 243 runs.
