Kipchumba smashes Shanghai Marathon record in an epic week of sport

In the world of sports, recent events have showcased extraordinary feats and gripping competitions. From the record-breaking performances at the Shanghai Marathon to the intense clashes in the Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup and the Africa Cup for Club Champions, sports enthusiasts have been treated to exhilarating displays of talent and determination. 

Shanghai Marathon

The Shanghai Marathon commenced on Sunday, November 26th, with thousands of athletes from around the world gathering to compete for the coveted title. 

Among the exceptional runners, Philimon Kiptoo Kipchumba from Kenya stood out, clinching victory in the Men’s Shanghai Marathon with an impressive time of 2:05:35, setting a new course record. Meanwhile, Siranesh Yirga Dagne from Ethiopia triumphed in the Women’s Shanghai Marathon, completing the race in a stylish 2:21:28.

Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup

The Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup kicked off on November 29th in an exciting manner. Zimbabwe began their African campaign against South Korea, facing a tough loss of 6-0 on the opening day. Similarly, the South African team competed against Chile, experiencing a narrow defeat of 1-0. Their subsequent match against the formidable Netherlands team on November 30th resulted in a 6-0 loss for the South African side.

Africa Cup for Club Champions

The Africa Cup for Club Champions captured the continent’s attention as multiple teams from across Africa vied for the prestigious title. Ultimately, the Egyptian team, El Sharkia, emerged victorious by defeating Kenya’s Western Jaguars 4-2 in the final. This win added to El Sharkia’s impressive tally, securing their 27th Africa Cup for Club Champions title. Meanwhile, in the Women’s category, Ghana Revenue Authority secured victory, emerging as the top finisher in their group.

Africa Netball Championships

The Africa Netball Championships are in full swing, having commenced on November 28th.

Games on November 28th:

  • Zambia Women secured a 63-47 victory against Eswatini.
  • Namibia Women triumphed over Zimbabwe with a score of 45-36.
  • Botswana Women emerged victorious against Kenya with a score of 36-28.

Games on November 29th:

  • Zimbabwe Men defeated Kenya with a score of 37-29.
  • Botswana Women secured a 39-29 win against Kenya.
  • Zimbabwe Women emerged victorious against Kenya with a score of 47-28.

Games on November 30th:

  • Zimbabwe Men secured a 38-31 victory against Botswana.
  • Zimbabwe Women triumphed over Botswana with a score of 56-50.
  • Zambia Women emerged victorious against Namibia with a score of 52-42.
