Road to Kigali: FUS de Rabat and Petro de Luanda secure playoff spots

The 2024 Basketball Africa League Kalahari Conference has reached its conclusion, with FUS de Rabat and Petro de Luanda demonstrating their dominance in the conference, securing spots in the upcoming BAL Playoffs and Finals, scheduled to be held in Kigali, Rwanda.

The BAL journey kicked off with the enthralling Kalahari Conference hosted in Pretoria, South Africa. The Sunset Arena witnessed the convergence of four formidable teams – FUS de Rabat, Petro De Luanda, Cape Town Tigers, and Dynamo BBC – on March 9th.

Throughout the BAL, spectators were treated to riveting matches and electrifying moments, as the intensity of the games captured the audience’s attention. Notably, Dynamo BBC’s expulsion from the competition due to non-compliance with BAL’s jersey regulations marked a significant incident.

The competition ignited with a spirited clash between Petro de Luanda and FUS de Rabat on March 9th, culminating in a 82-73 victory for FUS de Rabat. Momentum continued as the Cape Town Tigers faced off against Petro De Luanda on March 10th, with Petro de Luanda securing a 100-88 triumph.

On March 12th, FUS de Rabat showcased their dominance against the Cape Town Tigers, securing a resounding 84-58 victory on home soil. The stakes reached a crescendo on March 14th as FUS de Rabat and Petro de Luanda clashed once more, resulting in a thrilling 89-86 win for Petro de Luanda in a nail-biting encounter.

The weekend brought further excitement, with the Cape Town Tigers playing a pivotal role in determining the final standings. On Saturday, March 16th, the Cape Town Tigers defeated Angola’s Petro de Luanda 84-78 in their second encounter of the conference. On Sunday, March 17th, they faced off against Morocco’s FUS de Rabat, succumbing to a 84-75 defeat.

As the Kalahari Conference drew to a close, FUS de Rabat emerged in first place, having won three out of four games. Petro de Luanda secured the second position with two wins and two losses, while the Cape Town Tigers finished third with one win and three losses.

Ultimately, FUS de Rabat and Petro de Luanda clinched their spots in the BAL Playoffs and Finals by their impressive performances, setting the stage for an exhilarating showdown in Kigali, Rwanda, following the conclusion of the remaining conferences.
